The Original Christmas Specials Collection

An upgraded new edition of "The Original Christmas Specials Collection: Deluxe Edition" arrives this year just in time for the holidays. While there have been numerous editions and releases of these specials in the past, this collection adds a few special features that will make collector's happy. Although a few missing things might cause collectors to hold onto their older copies.

Included in the set are the original Rankin/Bass Animagic specials: "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town," and "The Little Drummer Boy." Also included are the Rankin/Bass animated specials "Frosty the Snowman" and "Cricket on the Hearth." All have been beautifully remastered with an HD master and 5.1 sound.

Included this time around are the all-new documentary "The Animagic World of Rankin/Bass" that includes interviews with a variety of animation historians, and filmmakers like Henry Selick ("The Nightmare Before Christmas") and Jon Favreau ("Elf"). There's also a segment on "Restoring the Puppets of Rudolph" as well as a look at the 4D Rudolph experience that is shown in 4D theatres worldwide. (You even get the full attraction film.)

Also included are a "Frosty the Snowman Pencil Test," "T.E.A.M. Rudolph and the Reindeer Games Storybook," and fairly interesting audio Commentaries on "Frosty the Snowman" and "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town."

If you don't have great looking copies, this is well worth the $17.99 asking price. But buyer beware, if you are one of those that preferred the song "Fame and Fortune" from "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer's" later years, it is missing from this set.
