Pick Up The Mic - The Revolution Of Homohop
There was always East Coast versus West Coast rappers. Now, there's gay versus straight rappers, exemplified in the new documentary, Pick Up the Mic - The Evolution of Homohop.
"Pick up the Mic" is so comprehensive and so outstanding, even if you're not a fan of hip hop music in general, you have to respect the artists featured within.
Focusing on a few artists in the beginning, who really started the queer hip-hop movement in San Francisco, the documentary expands to show the full extent and impact it had nationwide.
What is truly amazing is the sheer amount of talent, whether it's a trans rapper, a lesbian rhymer or a gay rasta. Each artist gets their own segment complete with full performances and interviews on their life stories.
The entire presentation is eye-opening, exciting, and inspiring on so many levels, that you can't help but be entertained.
The special features include 40 minutes of additional interviews with the various artists featured, from San Francisco to New York City and everywhere in between.
If you're an aspiring rap artist and need some encouragement, "Pick Up the Mic" cannot be recommended highly enough.
