Welsh Public Restroom Programmed to Douse Sexscapades

What's the first thing that springs to mind when considering issues around public restrooms?

Why, public sex, of course!

That was such a consideration for a Welsh community that a plan to install cutting-edge public conveniences comes complete with inbuilt systems intended to prevent people from using the restrooms for amorous adventures.

British newspaper The Guardian reports that the lavatories will include floors that register the weight of the occupant - only one, ideally - and motions sensors that are keyed to reposed to "violent" movement by throwing the door open, setting off an alarm, and activating sprays of water to douse the interior... and anyone inside at the time.

Of course, all of this could, in theory, backfire. Comments left at another UK newspaper, The Mirror, which also reported on the high-tech commodes, addressed some of the obvious issues.

"what about disabled people who have a carer go in with them?" one individual posted.

Another opined, "This is just an anti-fat person toilet in reality."

The Mirror noted that the anti-sex feature is only one of a suite of capacities that the facilities - which reportedly cost £170,000 ($206,000 U.S.) - will possess. The water closets will prevent people from sleeping inside them by limiting the time an individual can remain inside. When the time limit approaches, warning signals will sound. Eventually, the lights and heating will switch off automatically. Moreover, the units will also be self-cleaning.
