Shawn Mendes has been treating audiences to a sneak peak of his upcoming album, "Shawn," in live sets. One of the songs he's sharing tackles the persistent rumors that he's gay – and the lyrics show that Mendes isn't worried about such speculations.

A video of the 26-year-old Canadian pop star posted to TikTok shows him in action, with the lyrics to the song "The Mountain" appearing in supertitles.

"You can say what you need to say," Mendes croons. "You can say I'm too young/You can say I'm too old/You can say I like girls or boys/Whatever fits your mold."

The crowd erupts into screams of approval at the words.

"In a full recording of the song and the speech he gave before it, Mendes tells the Woodstock, N.Y., audience that 'The Mountain' is 'one of my favorites off the album,'" The Advocate relayed.

"At one point in his life, he shared, the rumors... would get to him," The Advocate went on to add, "but he's since learned to let it go with the help of 'exploring realms' and 'a little bit of mushrooms.'"

The article noted that Mendes "publicly dat[es] women only."

The new album, due out Nov. 15, features a dozen tracks and comes after Mendes took a break. As previously reported, Mendes took to Instagram in August to share, "2 years ago I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago I couldn't step into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift."

For audiences, too, it would seem.
